Police investigate suspicious death

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating a suspicious death after firefighters found a body while fighting a house fire.

Friday, about 10:23 p.m., officers were called to a home near Moulton and College avenues. When they arrived, they found a fire and called the fire department for help. Police said firefighters found a body inside the house.

Looking at the house the next day, many wouldn't think it was the scene of a fire. It looks pretty much untouched, except for one ashy patch out on the front stoop.

Detectives are investigating the death as suspicious.

Neighbors said they are confused and upset by the events. Several people said they stood outside Friday night and watched as multiple fire trucks arrived on scene, but they never saw flames or smoke.

They said they're confused about what exactly happened, upset that police won't give them any details and, without information, they feel uncomfortable in their own homes.

"We are kind of nervous because we don't know what's going to happen next. We don't know who it was, we don't know if the person will come back, we don't know what happened," Julian Orozco said.

There are many boarded up homes along the stretch of Moulton Avenue and neighbors said they thought the house was vacant.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline 816-474-8477.
