Cheshire crash causes traffic nightmare on I-84 east

Posted: Updated:

A crash on Interstate 84 east in Cheshire caused a traffic nightmare for commuters Thursday morning.

The three-vehicle crash was reported at exit 27 in Cheshire, and as a result the highway was shut down for a period of time, causing a traffic backup all the way into Waterbury.

Connecticut State Police said two vehicles were slowing down for traffic in the right lane, when a third vehicle, driven by Morris Felder, of Woodbourne, NY, slammed into the back of a vehicle driven by Keith Fallon, of Torrington.

The force of the crash caused Fallon's vehicle to spin counter-clockwise and stopped in the center lane.

Felder's vehicle then continued and slammed into another vehicle, driven by Christopher Montalvo, of Waterbury.

Montalvo's vehicle also spun counter-clockwise and it ended up coming to a rest in the opposite direction, blocking the right shoulder.

Felder's vehicle continued to skid across the road and finally came to a rest after slamming into the median barrier.

A passenger in Montalvo's vehicle, identified as Ileana Borrero, of Waterbury, was brought to a local hospital after complaining of injuries.

State police said Felder was at fault, but it's unknown if he was cited or will face any charges.
