FAIRFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

Fairfield firefighters and state police responded to a crash late Wednesday night at the rest area on Interstate 95 southbound near exit 21.

When crews arrived, they located a Nissan Sentra that had struck a tractor-trailer parked in the rest area.

The driver of the car was found trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim has only been identified as a 41-year-old male.

The tractor-trailer was carrying flammable liquids, officials said. However, none of the chemicals inside were found to be leaking.

It took crews nearly two hours to remove the victim from the wrecked vehicle, officials said.

Fairfield Fire Assistant Chief Scott Bisson said this is the second fatal crash in the past two weeks involving a tractor-trailer parked in a rest area and struck by a vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
