Milwaukie teen accused of killing grandmother

Posted: Updated:

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in the murder of his grandmother in Milwaukie.

Andrew Johnson lived with the victim, 63-year-old Donna Tennant, at 2817 S.E. Monroe St.

Detectives launched the murder investigation Monday afternoon in Milwaukie. Police found Tennant dead inside the home around noon.

Milwaukie police said they obtained information during the criminal investigation that led them to arrest Johnson late Monday night in the Jantzen Beach area of north Portland.

Johnson has been booked into the Clackamas County Jail on aggravated murder charges, and he's expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday.

Monroe Street was shut down for hours while police investigated Monday evening. Neighbors said they've never seen crime scene tape in their own neighborhood.

"This is a very nice area, there's no trouble around here except speeding down the street," said Ed Zumwalt, who lives near the victim.

"You don't hear of any crime in this area, anywhere around here," said Barbara Locke, who lives in the neighborhood. "(It's) pretty friendly, a lot of people always walking by. They say, 'Hi.' Men, women, young, old."
