SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -

A standoff at a Shawnee, KS, apartment complex is over after police said the man they were speaking with killed himself.

The SWAT unit for the Shawnee Police Department surrounded Shawnee Station Apartment Homes, located in the area of Access and Maurer roads, Thursday morning.

Officials said there was a suicidal man with a gun in one of the apartments. He was by himself, but police were worried about those living in nearby apartments.

Police didn't conduct a mandatory evacuation, but evacuated residents willing to temporarily leave to the apartment's lobby.

The last time police heard from the man was about 10 a.m. They entered the apartment about 2:20 p.m. and found him dead.
