Parents of a local high school student say their son committed suicide because he was bullied about his homosexuality.
That's what the parents of 17-year-old Josh Pacheco tell area media outlets. The teen attended Linden High School and lived in Fenton.
The Flint Journal reports the 11th grader was found unresponsive Nov. 27 at his home, inside his truck, which was discovered idling inside the home's closed garage. At note was found at the scene which states in part, "I'm sorry I wasn't able to be strong enough."
In the days after his death, Pacheco's parents said they received phone calls that their son was the victim of bullying because he was gay. The Journal reports that Pacheco was well-liked and well-loved, and that he was described as quirky and not into sports.
Part of Pacheco's obituary states:
"Joshua was born October 24, 1995 in Southfield. He attended Linden High School and enjoyed theatre and AP Politics. He was also involved with Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). Josh was part of the Kids Theatre Kompany and worked at Tim Horton. His infectious smile warmed the hearts of all who knew him."
Linden High School said it will be investigating claims that Pacheco was bullied.
Linden High School students held a vigil Wednesday night outside of the Mill Pond Gazebo.
