KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Around the holidays people start to think about donating to a good cause and the owner of one barbershop is pushing that idea to the extreme.

Joey Thomas, the owner of Joey Cuts, is encouraging people to donate to the Know Joey? Foundation's sixth annual Turkey Tuesday event at Joey Cuts Barber Shop, located at 3914 Indiana in Kansas City, MO. Thomas is challenge the community to donate turkeys and non-perishable food items to families in need from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The goal is to get 1,000 turkeys donated during the 24-hour community challenge.

Third District Councilman Jermaine Reed has participated in the event for several years now.

"Having overcome homelessness, I know how important it is for people to receive help during this holiday season," Reed said. "I commend the Know Joey? Foundation for hosting this great event and hope that others will come out and donate turkeys to feed those in need."

The Know Joey? Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to empower, lead and uplift young men in the metropolitan Kansas City area, specifically the 64130 zip code area; through educational advancements and the exploration of entrepreneurial endeavors.
