Police: Alcohol may be to blame in deadly Overland Park wreck

OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -

Police say alcohol may have played a part in a deadly single-car rollover crash that killed a 20-year-old man.

The wreck happened about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday on northbound U.S. 69 Highway just north of Interstate 435 in Overland Park.

Authorities said the driver, and only occupant in the car, appeared to have lost control after having traveled from westbound I-435 onto the ramp to northbound U.S. 69. He was later identified as John Stevens Hauk II of Lenexa, KS.

"Looks like the vehicle left the roadway and the driver attempted to correct and get back onto the road but overcorrected and lost control.  The vehicle eventually turned over onto it's top," Sgt. Jim Sutterby said.

The reason for Hauk having lost control is still under investigation.

Northbound lanes of U.S. 69 were closed immediately after the crash, but re-opened about 5 a.m.  The northbound ramp to U.S. 69 opened about an hour later.
