A fire truck headed to the scene of a house fire was involved in a wreck Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at 31st Street and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard about 3 p.m. Officials said a silver car didn't yield to the fire truck and got T-boned. Four firefighters were onboard at the time of the crash. The car's driver didn't want to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, and no injuries were reported.
There was a house fire reported about a mile away at Stadium Drive and Fremont Avenue. The fire truck was part of the response.
The house is laid out with the second floor towards the back. Two people were inside the house when the fire broke out and one person was outside when crews arrived. That person said they were suffering from chest pains and was taken to a hospital. Officials said the second person walked away from the house, but they haven't been able to locate her.
After crews got the fire under control, the house was left with complete damage.
One firefighter working the scene was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The house fire broke out in a neighborhood where people have lived for years. Neighbors said they believe the house was vacant but had been occasionally occupied by squatters.
