A 24-year-old Gardner man was killed in a crash late Thursday night and speed may have been a factor, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 11 p.m. at 50th Street and Wornall Road, which is just south of the Country Club Plaza. The Kansas man was driving a black Saturn sedan northbound on Wornall toward the Plaza when he lost control and hit a stone wall.
The man died at the scene. Police found no indication that the man attempted to brake before the vehicle struck the retaining wall head on.
While investigating the fatal crash, police arrested a man. That man slowly drove around the police barricade. Police said the man had a revoked license, was drunk and was driving a stolen vehicle.
