Police have launched an investigation Friday morning after a body was pulled from Big Eleven Lake.
The lake, which is at North 10th Street and Washington Boulevard, is near the John F. Community Center. KCTV5's Sandra Olivas is at the scene and says the area is roped off with crime tape.
The fully clothed body was that of 33-year-old David Ray Jackson, who lives in the neighborhood. His family has been notified.
Police said Friday afternoon that they believe his death was a tragic accident.
The discovery was made about 9 a.m. by a man walking by the lake who saw the body floating at the edge. Investigators ask anyone who may have been hanging out at the lake with Jackson or seen anyone hanging out with him at the lake to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
Earlier Friday, Lt. Kelli Bailiff, spokeswoman for the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office, had said authorities were working to determine how long he was in the water.
"We need to talk to people who knew anything that happened last night here or early this morning," Bailiff said Friday morning. "There are a lot of circumstances that can be determined by the direction of wind and water."
