HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

Henderson police have arrested a man accused of being a serial prank caller.

Tuy Thai, 35, of Henderson, was arrested Wednesday night and accused of tying up emergency lines with hang up calls. Thai is alleged to have called 911 more than 3,600 times in the past year. On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, he is alleged to have called 911 a total of 59 times.

In each instance, Thai is accused of calling 911 from his cellphone. When the dispatcher answered, he said nothing and hung up. When the dispatcher would call him back, he would not answer.

Police said Thai had been questioned in the past about dialing 911. He always denied it or blamed it on other people using his phone. On Wednesday, detectives observed him to make sure he was the only person using his phone.

Police stopped Thai on Wednesday night after he left his house, asking him if he had an emergency which required assistance. He denied calling 911, later saying his phone was broken and dialed 911 by itself.

Thai was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on 59 counts of unlawful use of 911. He's being held on $59,000 bond and faces up to a year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine for each count of unlawful use of 911.
