Authorities are searching for clues after a man was found shot to death inside his Northland home by his wife.
Police on Thursday identified the man as 53-year-old Albert R. Bowman.
Police are investigating whether the man was killed during a home-invasion robbery. No one reported hearing gunshots or seeing any signs of trouble at the home.
Officers were called about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday to the 5500 block of Northeast Munger Avenue after Bowman's wife came home to discover his body.
Homicide detectives have been on scene since, going door to door talking with neighbors and hoping for some leads that will send them in the right direction. Those neighbors are now on edge.
"Anytime we have something like this, the detectives come out and do an area canvass and knock on doors," said Capt. Steve Young, lead public information officer for the Kansas City Police Department. "Someone may know something that may be important, and they may not know it. So if we don't beat the bushes, we could miss information."
A neighbor who has lived in the neighborhood just off Interstate 35 and Northeast Vivion Road for 40 years said he has never woken up to a block full of police cars and crime scene tape.
Like most, he said the neighborhood is normally quiet with no violence.
Jeremy Eden said he is uneasy.
"Is there a person at large that killed someone a few blocks from me running around the neighborhood or possibly hiding? We don't know," Eden said. "I think the biggest problem is we don't know."
If anyone has any information that could help police investigate the homicide, they are urged to call TIPS Hotline 816-474-TIPS.
