KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Some Kansas City, KS, Community College students are asking for your help to help their teacher.

The group is called Hip for Haussler and their goal is to raise about $10,000 for their teacher, adjunct professor Don Haussler, to get a new hip.

Haussler's insurance won't pay for the hip replacement that he's needed for years to deal with the deterioration of his left hip, so the students set out to raise the money with a raffle, yard sale and other ideas.

The students said their teacher is one special guy, deserving of their help.

"He helps a lot if people out, he goes out of his way to help with math or personal problems, he always makes time for someone to sit down and talk with them," student Ken Herrington said.

"Absolutely amazing. Already I'm just flabbergasted by the reaction of the students, the activity and the plans for the future. It's great," Haussler said.

The students also hope to get their teacher a new pair of special shoes because one of his legs is shorter than the other.

If you would like to know more about the students' raffle and fundraising plans there's a Facebook page you can "like" called Hip for Haussler.
