MOSBY, MO (KCTV) -
A group of thieves who thought they were going to rob a Clay County man thought wrong after he greeted them with a shotgun.
It is a normally quiet town but on Wednesday a Mosby, MO, man got a rude awakening.
Clay County deputies say three men came to his home on Second Street and kicked in the door. But they got a big surprise when they saw a shotgun staring them in the face.
On the other end of the barrel stood the homeowner, ready to defend himself.
The homeowner said he heard the men snooping around and grabbed the shotgun just in time.
Randall Grimm runs a body shop just down the street. He has seen his share of violence and the news doesn't surprise him. But he says he will take a few extra precautions to keep his property secure.
"I'll let my dogs out more in the backyard and make sure if anyone comes around that I will hear them first," Grimm said.
Ironically, the attempted home invasion happened just down the street from Mosby's part-time police department.
Responding sheriff's deputies, working off a tip, tracked down the trio's getaway truck off Fourth Street. Three suspects, along with three others, were taken into custody.
"I've got guns in my house, and I will use them if I have to protect me and my wife," Grimm said.
Charles Graham lives just a few houses away from where the men were arrested. He says crime happens in almost every town, large or small. He feels better knowing law enforcement reacted quickly.
"They took care of it. If I call the sheriff's department, they are right out here. If I got a problem, I don't have to worry about it. They take care of things," Graham said.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office hasn't released the names of the men they have in custody, but they are all at the detention center pending charges.
