Chiefs losing season creating losses for businesses

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

The fans are disappointed and disgusted with the Chiefs 1-6 season.

But imagine the business owners who depend on Chiefs success to pad their bottom lines.

From venue owners to ticket and memorabilia sellers, this year's Chiefs are a real bummer.

"When you're selling tickets for under face value and people walk by and laugh, I think that says it all," Ace Sports and Tickets owner Hal Wagner said Monday. "We're way down on jersey sales, we're way down on Chiefs collectibles, we're way down on autographs."

Wagner and others are hoping that perhaps fans for the Chiefs' opponents will help buy the tickets that Chiefs fans are passing by.

Other businesses say they aren't seeing a huge decline because fans are spending their entertainment dollars elsewhere.

Wagner does see one positive if the Chiefs go 1-15 and use their high draft pick to select a franchise quarterback.

"We have to go 1-15. Now that may make some fans upset with me, but I would rather have a rookie quarterback with a future we could all rally around and get excited about," Wagner said.
