LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -
Firefighters battled a garage fire that heavily damaged two Lee's Summit townhomes Saturday.
Crews were called about 5:15 p.m. Saturday to the two-story, four-unit townhome in the 100 block of Northeast Churchill Street.
When crews arrived, smoke and fire was coming from the garage of the complex, as occupants of the neighboring units were being evacuated. The fire had spread into the attic above the garage and into a storage area.
Firefighters knocked down the fire in the heavily involved garage, and the vehicle parked in front of it. Crews were able to extinguish the fire before it could spread any further.
The fire was under control about 30 minutes later.
Authorities said the fire caused extensive damage to the garage of one of units with varying amounts of smoke and heat damage to the living area and the attic space above the neighboring unit's garage.
Two of the four units were able to be reoccupied. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
