OTTAWA, KS (KCTV) -
After a devastating car accident left him paralyzed, one Ottawa, KS, man is getting some national attention for what he's been able to build since his accident.
It's two hours a day, six days a week and 12 months a year, but it's not the kind of workout you might expect.
Nick Scott, 30, is paralyzed from the waist down, but he's also a nationally-known body builder.
"I feel amazing, it's like me being one with the weights," he said.
A 1998 car wreck left Scott paralyzed, but it did not slow him down. He knew he could still follow his dream.
"After my accident, I felt like I had nothing. But lifting was the one thing I had," Scott said. "Instead of focusing on the negotiable, I focused on the positive and what I could do."
Now Time has taken notice of Scott's story. The magazine recently used him for a photo shoot on wheelchair bodybuilders. Scott is currently ranked second nationally.
"I'm like this close to beating the guy, but it's OK," he said.
Scott's won just about every other battle in life and hopes the Time story will soon put wheelchair body building on a bigger stage.
"It's about bringing awareness to the disabled community," he said. "In reality, we all have disability - mine is just visual."
Scott adds one more message for others dealing with tragedy.
"If you pursue your passion and something you love, you become self motivated," he said.
The Time article is scheduled to go to print next week.
Scott has also written a book about his life. Click here for more information on him and wheelchair body building.
