It appears a barbecue joint likely won't be moving into the Leawood Ranch Mart Shopping Center.
A developer wanted to turn the old post office there into a Slab 'N' Pickle restaurant, but some neighbors were against it.
The developer threatened to sue when the council rejected his commercial zoning proposal in the spring.
City leaders came up with a new zoning category Tuesday night that would allow for something like an office or retail store, but not a bar or restaurant.
"We had to go back to the drawing table and sit down and get something that would be useful to both parties. After about two or three moths of work, I think we have a very workable solution for both parties," neighborhood leader Seth Barry said.
The plan will now move forward to the full city council for a vote.
