OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) -
Police are investigating an armed home invasion that began with a 911 caller unable to speak to operators.
Officers responded just before 9 p.m. Tuesday to the area of 94th Street and Nieman Road after receiving a call from a cell phone.
The call initially came into dispatch as a 911 open line. Dispatchers could hear what sounded like some type of disturbance in the background.
When officers arrived, they set up a perimeter and searched for suspects.
Officers made contact with a woman who said two men came through her front door, tied her up, and hit her across the face with a hand gun. The men told the woman that they were there for money and other unknown items.
After the initial interviews, police later determined that the woman was not the victim and was not home at the time.
The actual victim was a man who was present at the home and was afraid to talk to the police because he had outstanding warrants, authorities said Wednesday.
Police say the original call could help them solve the case.
"It was an open line call to police. Our dispatchers could hear stuff going on in the background. What they believed was a disturbance. Obviously, we don't know what we are going to get into when we got here," said Richard Breshears with the Overland Park Police Department.
They are looking for two men in their late 20s with heavy builds, wearing white T-shirts. One of them had brown hair and the other had blond hair. One was carrying a shotgun and the other had a handgun.
