SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -

The IRS seized hundreds of items from a Lawrence home and auctioned them off Wednesday morning. Everything went to the highest bidder.

A John Elway autographed jersey went for $500.

The winner of an autographed Kobe Bryant jersey said, when he saw it up for auction, he had to have it.

"It's for my son, he's a big Lakers fan - Kobe Bryant fan - and so I thought it'd be a fun thing for his basement man cave deal, you know," Al Erskine of Kansas City, MO, said.

There is a very interesting auction going on in Shawnee, KS, Wednesday. The auction, being held by the IRS, offers people a chance to get their hands on some very interesting items.

"We've got a little bit of something for everybody," said Liquidation Specialist for the IRS Eileen Foy.

They are the physical items of one man's life, up for sale at auction, to pay back taxes.

"They go in and seize it, and my job is to is sell the stuff," Foy said.

A $4,000 ring, autographed baseballs, furniture and memories saved away in a Lawrence home are now on the auction block.

"You'll definitely get some bargains," Foy said.

The auction is a prime example of what happens when taxes don't get paid - the IRS will sell your stuff.

For those interested, some amazing stuff is going to be available to bid on. Some items include an autographed Kobe Bryant and John Elway jersey as well as a University of Kansas autographed basketball. There's an autographed Brett Farve helmet and even a Barry Sanders football.

"If it fully pays it and there's more out there, then taxpayer would get the rest of the money back. If not, he's (the homeowner) on the hook for what's out there," Foy said.

Along with the jewelry and sports memorabilia, the prize item at the auction might be a 2008 Lexus worth around $18,000. Chances are it will sell for a lot less.

Auction shoppers said they feel bad for the owner, but a bargain is a bargain.

"A bargain is a bargain. I'm not going to feel too bad if I get it, but my heart does go out to him," Misty Ewing said.

With the right bid, a person can even buy everything Wednesday.

Items may be previewed Tuesday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. or before the auction on Wednesday. The auction begins at 10 a.m. at Lindsay's Auctions, located at 4795 Frisbie Rd., in Shawnee, KS. For more information on other IRS auctions, click here.
