At one point or another most people who live in big cities have made a comment or two about the way it smells.
Chicago is now the first city to have a perfume with the distinct smell of the city.
Its creators say it is local, sustainable and a lot of people think it smells pretty good too. The new perfume is made up of extracts from flowers grown in Chicago parks.
The fragrance is called Tru Blooms. The company behind the first of its kind effort, Tru Fragrance, partnered with the Chicago Park District and several nonprofits to grow and harvest flowers in neighborhoods all over the city.
They planted lavender, roses and violets in a number of gardens to make the perfume.
Paul Leroue with Tru Fragrance of Beauty said the idea started about a year and a half ago, thinking of something different that would honor Chicago.
"Not only did the community really get behind it, but the curiosity of what Chicago really smells like, the gardens, has been part of the fun of the project," Leroue said.
The company is already taking a look at additional locations for next year, along with some different combinations of flowers that will create a different scent.
"Quite frankly for the park district, they helped us out because the dollars that we would have spent planting our gardens, we didn't spend. They spent it planting our gardens," said Adam Schwerner with the Chicago Park District.
The perfume is being sold for a limited time at department stores in Chicago.
