KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -
A mother is mourning the loss of her teenage son who was shot and killed while leaving a party at a community center.
A baby photo, a high school student ID and an award-winning drawing are the markers of Ramon Bradley's life. There wasn't time for more.
"Seventeen years is not a life. That is just the beginning," Bradley's mother, Ramona Douglas, said.
But it was all the senior at F. L. Schlagle High School got after he was shot and killed Saturday night in a friend's car, leaving a party at the JFK Community Center in Kansas City, KS.
"When we (were) at the party last night, he was just funny smiling, just being Ramon," a friend, Darryl Bagley, said.
Friends say he didn't get into any fights there, nothing to spark what happened next, while they were driving near Third Street and Minnesota Avenue.
"They said that the car came up behind them fast, speeding and several shots were fired from several different guns," Douglas said.
Bradley was hit. His friends pulled over on Fairfax Trafficway and called the police.
"By the time they got there, he had passed," Douglas said.
His family and friends can't point to any conflicts in his life that would make him a target, nothing that should have ended like this.
"Utter madness, no respect for human life," said George Bradley, the victim's grandfather.
His mother said he son, he was a loving, happy, regular teenager with a shoe fetish.
"He was named after me, one of the best things that ever happened to me," Douglas said.
And now that the worst has happened, the family is asking for help.
"If you know something say it, because I wouldn't want any other children, well their parents, to experience anything that we are going through," Douglas said.
The family says it is not revenge in their hearts, it is simply justice.
Witnesses describe the shooter's car as a red Dodge Stratus. They say they crashed it at one point, but kept driving, so there should be some damage to it.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
