Latest shooting marks 87th homicide for Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Detectives are investigating an overnight shooting that marks the city's 87th homicide.

Police were called about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday to the Bridgeport Apartments near East 107th Street and Greenwood Road on a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 26-year-old Mark A. Shears, of Kansas City, shot in the driver's seat of a white Pontiac parked at the complex.

Police said Shears died from his injuries.

Witnesses have told police that immediately after the shooting a gray vehicle was observed leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.

So far, detectives have solved 40 of the 87 homicide cases, two of which are now in the hands of the Jackson County prosecutor.
