Paul Piper
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Two men have been charged in the Oct. 9 murder of Paul E. Piper, according to the Jackson County prosecutor.
Jerald Hendrix, 25, faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. Prentice Wilson was charged earlier this year in connection with the homicide.
The shooting happened at 34th Street and Indiana Avenue about 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 9. Police were called to a home in the 3400 block of Indiana where they found the man shot in the front yard. He later died.
Officials said the victim, later identified as 26-year-old Paul Piper, was at his grandmother's house when he was gunned down.
Police went door-to-door after the shooting, talking to neighbors and trying to find out if anyone saw anything.
Witnesses said they only heard one gunshot and then they saw someone running away.
"When we arrived, an officer found a victim who was actually laying kind of between the sidewalk and the front yard of a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound," Officer Darin Snapp said. "The ambulance arrived and, unfortunately, the victim died before the ambulance could actually render aid."
Witnesses described seeing a man wearing a black hoodie flee on foot from the shooting scene. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
Prosecutors requested Hendrix's bond be set at $250,000 cash.
