KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
A passenger in a car involved in a wreck two days prior has died.
Odis Nash, a Vietnam veteran, died in the crash.
Friday just after 9 p.m., officers responded to a wreck at 35th Street and Emanuel Cleaver II. The driver of the second vehicle left the scene before officers arrived.
Originally officials said all involved in the wreck suffered minor injuries. But Sunday, police said the passenger riding in the vehicle that was hit died from his injuries.
"It was the most horrific thing I could have ever imagined," Rose Marie Carson said about the crash that injured her and killed her brother-in-law.
Two vehicles were turning onto Cleaver from 35th Street when the car slammed into them.
Based on witness accounts and evidence at the scene, police describe the vehicle that drove off as an older-model sedan that's possibly rust-colored. It has extensive front-end damage and was last seen heading southbound on Cleaver II from 35th Street.
If anyone has information about the vehicle, they are asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS or TIS at 816-482-8190.
The family hopes someone will come forward. In the meantime, they are remembering Nash and the good he did in his life.
"He was a great family man. A great singer. A great handyman around the neighborhood," his nephew, Christopher Jones, said.
The family donated Nash's organs to others, including a man in need of a liver. This gives a small measure of comfort to his surviving loved ones, which include two daughters and five grandchildren.
