Body weighted down floats up at Truman Lake

BENTON COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities are asking for assistance in identifying a female's body found floating in Truman Lake.

The body was found Sunday by a boater near Warsaw, MO.

Benton County Sheriff Rick Fajen said the body had been weighted down. He said the body had been in the lake for at least a few days and as long as six months.

"It has been ruled a homicide," Fajen said. "We are looking for helping in trying to identify this person."

Deputies describe the white female as approximately 13 to 20 years old and about 5'8".

Because of the investigation, Fajen declined to say exactly where on the spacious lake that the body was found. Fajen also declined to release any details about whether she was clothed or wearing any jewelry.

No missing females are in this area. Police think the killer may have driven a distance to dump the body in the lake in hopes of getting away with the crime.

If anyone has information, they are urged to contact the Benton County Sheriff's Office at 660-438-5252 or the Missouri State Highway Patrol 816-622-0800.
