HIGGINSVILLE, MO (KCTV) -
The family of a Raytown man killed in a drive-by shooting is raising more money for the reward to help find his killer.
Loved ones held an auction and concert Saturday night in Higginsville for Harry M. Stone, 60, who was shot and killed last May in front of a gas station near 67th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard.
Stone went for his normal morning jog before Sunday morning church services, except he never made it for the service at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Metro Squad detectives believe the killing was a random act of violence.
Detectives say a dark-colored, four-door sedan pulled by, slowed down, fired several shots at Stone, then pulled off, without ever stopping.
Stone's family raised about $3,000 at the fundraiser Saturday and will give the money to Crime Stoppers in hopes to increase the reward money. Randy Stone said increasing the reward might hopefully get justice for his brother.
"Get these killers off the streets before they hurt anyone else, and get some closure for the family. It has been very hard," Randy Stone said.
The reward is currently at $10,000, but the family is hoping the benefit and previous events will add to the total.
