Stalled motorist refueling vehicle struck, killed on I-35

Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a stalled motorist early Saturday.

A vehicle broke down on Interstate 35 in Lenexa just north of College Boulevard in a construction zone. The vehicle had run out of gas.

Two of the occupants were refueling the vehicle when the driver of the pickup collided into the vehicle.

Christopher Randolph Sr., 41, died at the scene. A second person was rushed to the hospital.

The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. The section of interstate was closed for a time during the investigation.

The driver fled the scene. The pickup was later found abandoned nearby with heavy front end damage.

On Friday night, an alleged intoxicated driver crashed his vehicle at 26th and Quincy streets in Kansas City. Neighbors said there was just one person in the vehicle and he crawled out of it wearing no clothing.
