BLUE SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -
Parents in the Blue Springs District are stunned after a third grader wandered away from his elementary school.
The student was found wandering along busy roads. He had walked more than a mile to a shopping center before a school resource officer picked him up.
This happened Tuesday at Thomas Ultican Elementary School. The student managed to leave during recess.
District officials would not discuss how the child managed to slip past teachers and what the district is doing to prevent this from occurring again. Officials said what happened Tuesday is a matter between the boy and his parents.
Some parents are upset that the district isn't being more transparent about how this happened, how long the boy was gone and what corrective steps will be taken.
