KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating a homicide at 59th Street and Wabash Avenue Wednesday evening. A second person was critically wounded.

Officials said officers were called to the area about 6:15 p.m. on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found a man who appeared to be in his 30s dead in the backyard of a home.

Another man arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle saying he had been shot at the same corner.  He is expected to survive.

Witnesses told police an older black Pontiac Grand Prix and a silver Ford Focus drove by when the shots were fired. Police don't believe both cars were involved, but the vehicles were so close that witnesses weren't sure where the shots came from.

Dozens of shell casings in the street suggested shots were fired from a car headed south on Wabash that then rounded the corner east on 59th Street while continuing to fire. Detectives are examining whether the victim was running and the driver was chasing while firing.

"That is when all the shots started being fired, and that's when people started scattering," officer Darin Snapp said.

Neighbors said they had no problems with the occupants of the house where the dead man was found, saying the occupants were quiet.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
