MISSION, KS (KCTV) -
One person is dead and two others hurt after a wreck in Mission late Wednesday afternoon.
The passenger of a red Ford Escort died after a motorcycle collided with it.
Police said a green Kawasaki was headed north on Metcalf Avenue when it hit the Ford Escort as the driver was turning left onto 56th Street just before 4 p.m.
The motorcyclist and the driver of the car are both in the hospital. There's no word on their conditions, but police said the motorcyclist's injuries are pretty severe.
Police explained the nature of the impact with the car.
"The passenger in the vehicle turning left was struck by the motorcyclist where they were sitting so there's a significant compression to the vehicle at that point," Mission Police Capt. Dave Moloy said.
While police haven't released much about the identities of those involved, they said all were adults.
There is no word at this time who was at fault, but the Overland Park Police Department's crash investigators were on scene to recreate the wreck and assist in the investigation.
As of 6 p.m. traffic began detouring at 56th Street.
