Possible case of tuberculosis reported in St. Joe

Posted: Updated:
ST. JOSEPH, MO (KCTV) -

The St. Joseph Health Department is currently following a possible case of tuberculosis.

The City of St. Joseph Health Department routinely offers screening, testing, and treatment of tuberculosis for individuals interested in being tested or needing testing for employment, education, or otherwise.

Tuberculosis is caused by bacteria called mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is spread by air droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person.  It usually attacks the lungs but can attack any part of the body.

According to the health department, people with active tuberculosis most often spread it to people they spend time with every day.  It is treatable and curable with appropriate treatment.
