LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -

A Kansas couple died Saturday after they ran a stop sign and collided with another car in rural Leavenworth County.

Bernard Payeur, 84, and his wife, Joanne, 77, died in the wreck about 7:15 p.m. at 207th Street and Mt. Olivet Road, west of Leavenworth.

The Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office said the Denison, KS, couple were headed west on Mt. Olivet in a 1996 Oldsmobile and ran a stop sign at 207th Street.

They collided with a 2011 Kia heading north on 207th Street.  The driver, Rebecca Gildner, 39, of Easton, KS, and her two passengers were injured in the crash.  They were transported to KU Medical Center for treatment.  All three were wearing seatbelts.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they found Bernard Payeur dead.  His wife died shortly thereafter at the scene. The couple did not appear to have been wearing seatbelts, according to the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office.

The accident is still under investigation.
