KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A Kansas City, KS, rapper has been charged with the murder of another rapper.

Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome A. Gorman charged Daniel Barlett, also known as Devil Boy, with first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle. He's being held on a $1 million bond.

The deadly shooting happened in broad daylight only a few blocks from Eugene Ware Elementary School, where hundreds of children sat inside, unaware of what was happening outside.

Friends of the victim said the deadly shooting was all over a feud between local rappers.

A music video shows Chad Ford, known as Creepy Face, doing what he did best. The 37-year-old rapper was killed Monday before 11 a.m. in the area of North 48th Street and Washington Avenue in Kansas City, KS. Police are not confirming if Creepy Face is the one Barlett is accused of murdering.

"It was like six or seven shots that were fired," witness Ramikka Marshall said.

Marshall has lived in her KCK neighborhood for more than six years, and waking up to gunshots with a house full of children was not how she wanted to start her Monday.

"I have five children, but my mother stays next door. She has her other grandchildren as well," she said.

Police said neighbors told them people in the car Ford was in and another car started shooting at each other. Ford was wounded and died at the hospital.

"The police were back-and-forth and back-and-forth, shutting down the whole block," Marshall said.

Ford's manager said his talent will be missed in the music world where he was working hard to succeed.

"He got up there and was just very talented. People would come in and watch him do one performance and they would want to do things with him constantly," Terri Smith said.

KCK police confirm Ford was involved in an ongoing feud with other rappers in town.

"Chad proceeded to go on his own and the other side had bad beef. They just didn't want to see him rise and it just got out of hand," Smith said as she choked back tears.

Police need the public's help locating another local rapper known as Michael Myers, whose real name is Michael McKeehan. He's a person of interest in the deadly shooting and police need tips to come in about where he could be hiding.

In the meantime, Ford's manager has set up a memorial fund to help his wife and three children with funeral expenses.

Donations can be made at creepyfacekc.com or by calling 785-304-3210.

Police ask that anyone with information that can help them solve this homicide or anyone who knows anything about the whereabouts of McKeehan call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
