
Authorities are investigating after a two-alarm fire damaged a large garage building behind an Overland Park auto dealership.
Firefighters responded shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday to a report of smoke in the area near West 78th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the large garage building behind the Overland Park Mazda dealership. They requested additional resources to help battle the blaze. The fire was extinguished about 30 minutes later.
Units from Overland Park, Consolidated Fire District No. 2 and Johnson County Med-Act worked to extinguish the fire.
The Overland Park Fire Department said the building sustained heavy smoke damage and the loss is currently estimated at $400,000. Both the cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation.
