Church remembers baby killed in parking lot

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A North Kansas City church said its final goodbye to a baby killed in a tragic accident in the church parking lot.

"She made everybody better. That's going to be a theme even though the separation from her was too soon. She's going to continue to make us better," Pastor Tiger Pennington said.

Autumn Humphrey, 11 months, died last Sunday after another church member accidentally hit the wrong pedal, accelerating into her aunt and her grandfather while backing out of the church parking lot.

Saturday afternoon, friends and family gathered at the First Baptist Church to remember a little girl who, despite being born nine weeks early and spending five weeks in the NICU, continues to touch lives.

"As Richard and Amanda and that entire family embraced the driver of the car and said ‘we forgive you and we know it's an accident, we forgive you,' it was the most real expression of the difference faith makes that I've ever seen," Pennington said.
