A 20-year-old Kansas City man is dead after being shot while riding in a truck.

Police were called about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to Research Medical Center's Brookside campus, located 6601 Rockhill Road, on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found three men in the vehicle, one of whom had been shot.

Authorities identified the shooting victim as Maurice S. Landis II.

Since the Brookside campus is not a trauma center, Landis was transported to another branch of the hospital were he later died.  Police Chief Darryl Forte said Landis was pronounced dead about 5 p.m., according to a Twitter post.

Police taped off the area, including the vehicle the victim arrived in, while they conducted their investigation.

Authorities said the other occupants of the vehicle told them they were driving north on Troost Avenue near East 63rd Street when they heard the sound of gunshots, and then realized Landis, a passenger in the truck, was hit.  They then drove him to the hospital.

Police have no suspects and have made no arrests and could not locate a crime scene.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
