CAMERON, MO (KCTV5) -

One person was killed when a plane crashed Sunday night, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 7 p.m. at the Cameron Municipal Airport in Clinton County, according to Cameron police.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.

The pilot was the sole person on board. David King, 52, of Lawson was taking off from the airport.

The city of Cameron runs the airport, which has an unmanned tower and beacon at night.  Someone coordinators flights during daytime hours. The airport has a single runway.

Pilots flying in the air saw the crash Sunday night and were among those reporting it.

Cameron Police Department Officer Heath Henry said it is a quiet airport and this is the first crash in recent memory at the airport.
