SPRINGFIELD, MO (KCTV) -

An investigation is under way into what caused a plane crash that killed everyone on board.

John Lambert, 44, of Springfield, MO, and Robin Melton, 46, died in the crash. Lambert's three children – 16-year-old Grayson, 15-year-old McKinley and 10-year-old Joshua Lambert were also aboard. They did not survive.

The family took a picture at Friday night's Royals game. They were flying back to Springfield when the small plane crashed northwest of Willard, MO, just after midnight.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the crash and haven't released any other details.

The crash occurred just after midnight Saturday in a field near the intersection of State Highway 123 and Farm Road 81. The plane caught fire after the crash. Witnesses described hearing the plane coming in but knew it was too low.

Federal authorities are investigating the cause. The plane was a 2002 Cirrus, single engine.

Lambert owned Missouri Insulation & Supply Inc., while Melton owned an environmental consulting firm called Environmental Worlds Inc.

The Royals held a moment of silence before the game to remember and honor the five killed.
