KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
A 2-year-old boy who died in a tragic accident was laid to rest Saturday.
Services were held Saturday morning at Life Church in Kansas City, MO, with a funeral following.
Benjamin "Bubbie" Thompson died in his driveway Monday at 84th Street and Hillcrest Road, which is on Kansas City's east side, after his father accidentally backed over him with his car.
Benjamin's mother said she's finding some peace in the fact that her son's organs will save other lives.
"If two people could be saved by heart valves from my son, that's a good thing. It's just the right thing to do. I'd want someone to do it for my son," Katherine Thompson said.
According to the Kids and Cars Safety Organization, at least 50 children are backed over every week in the U.S. On average, two of those kids die.
The organization hosted a backover safety event Saturday afternoon in Overland Park. It was held in the Old Navy parking lot at 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
Parents were shown blindzone demonstrations and educated on what they should be watching out for when behind the wheel.
