Google Fiber announces first fiberhoods to get high-speed internet

Posted: Updated:

Google Fiber confirms that 180 fiberhoods throughout Kansas City will be wired with their ultra high-speed Google Fiber.

The first fiberhood to receive Fiber will be Hanover Heights in Kansas City, KS. Hanover Heights was the very first fiberhood to qualify and did so within two hours of Google's announcement in July. They also pre-registered the highest percentage of households in KCK.

Google Fiber said their teams plan to start the installation in Hanover Heights within the next few weeks and then move onto other fiberhoods on the Kansas side.

On the Missouri side, the first fiberhood to get service will be Crown Center. Infrastructure on the Missouri side is still being finalized so crews hope to start installing Google Fiber to the Crown Center neighborhood followed by others on that side next spring. The schedules aren't set in stone and weather, potentially, could play a part in the set-up.

In their latest blog, Google Fiber said, "Residents in 89 percent of Kansas City, KS, and central Kansas City, MO, fiberhoods will be able to get brand new, next-generation Fiber connected to their home."

Google Fiber touts that, once installed, those fiberhoods will experience faster internet and clearer TV.
