Witnesses: Shooting looked like target practice for suspect

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A man has died after he was shot Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. at 40th and Wabash streets.

The victim is 26-year-old Joseph Davis. He was rushed to surgery after being shot in the back and died some time later. Witnesses told police Davis was walking after leaving his girlfriend's house when someone from the passenger's side of a vehicle waiting along 40th Street took aim and fired several shots.

Police said this was not a random shooting and it appears the victim was the intended target.

"Witnesses stated that they observed the car parked there with at least one person in it and, as the victim was walking on Wabash, he turned to go west on 40th Street and, as he had his back towards that car is when the individual in that car – they said it was almost like target practice. They (the suspect) took his time, got out and actually aimed and shot the individual right in the back," Officer Darin Snapp said.

Police said they are searching for a 2000 black Chevy Monte Carlo in which the possible shooter was in. They said the person in the passenger seat was wearing a bright orange shirt.
