Man calls police, claims self-defense in deadly shooting

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police are investigating after a 21-year-old man says he shot and killed someone in self-defense.

The shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the 9400 block of Cleveland Avenue in south Kansas City.

Police say they found the shooting victim, 18-year-old Michael C. Wilson, dead in a parking lot. The man that called police told detectives he shot the victim in self-defense.

The man told police he and a friend were walking his dog when several people came up to them and one pulled a gun. The man said he felt threatened so he shot the person who pulled the gun.

Detectives are interviewing the suspect and ask anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
