SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) -
Police will be on special patrols Monday in school zones as parents take their child to school, making sure drivers are buckling up.
Officers are paying close attention to young children using seat belts. They also want to make sure drivers are slowing down.
According to authorities, two-thirds of the people killed in crashes in Kansas were not wearing seat belts.
Officers in Kansas City, KS, also held a similar crack down.
Police can write one ticket for every passenger that is 14 years of age or older. Children under the age of 4 must be secured in an approved child safety seat.
Children ages 4-7 must be secured in an booster seat unless they are 4'9" or heavier than 80 pounds.
The goal is to reduce the number of preventable deaths and injuries that happen when people are not wearing their seat belts.
