Two construction workers were hurt when scaffolding collapsed at the Leavenworth VA Medical Center Friday.

A spokesperson for the hospital said crews were tuck-pointing, or repairing mortar joints in the brick wall, and lowering scaffolding when the accident occurred about 1:15 p.m.

A public relations person for the VA Medical Center said the building has had scaffolding around it for over a year due to brick replacement. Two workers were hurt, but only one was taken to the hospital. The person is expected to recover from his injuries.

The medical center building is about 80 years old.

The company Zieson Construction is currently employed at the medical center. A call to their company hasn't been returned.
