KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
The city is kicking off a new program for their employees Wednesday called Change for Life. It's a new diabetes awareness campaign.
Tuesday IZOD IndyCar series driver Charlie Kimball was in Kansas City talking to employees about how his fight with diabetes has changed his life, but he still manages to race at the sport's top level.
Kimball said people need to get checked for diabetes before it's too late.
"Diabetes doesn't have to slow you down. Working on diabetes awareness, pro-active health care management. The fact that you can still have a rich, full, healthy life doing exactly what you want with good diabetes management," Kimball said.
Twenty-six million Americans have diabetes. It's the major cause of kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke and even death.
