Authorities have a person of interest they are questioning in the murder investigation of 25-year old Blaine Whitworth.
The break comes less than 24 hours after the Missouri Rural Major Case Squad, consisting of about 35 officers from several agencies, met up in central Missouri on Tuesday, following up on more than 60 leads.
Whitworth, the city's first homicide victim since 2009, was found dead Saturday night outside his home in Warrensburg.
Whitworth owned two bars in downtown Warrensburg, and, friends say, after graduating from the University of Central Missouri, he went to work as a safety manager for an off-shore drilling company before deciding Warrensburg was where he belonged.
His goal was to make Warrensburg a better place.
Alex Lohman, who met Whitworth at UCM, said Whitworth was not only a great friend, but he was a great big brother.
"He took care of Tucker more than anything, and I would give anything just to extend my arms and be there for him. Him and his parents are just absolutely great people," Lohman said.
A vigil will be held for Whitworth at 9 p.m. Wednesday at Molly's, one of the bars he owned in downtown Warrensburg. His visitation is set for Friday evening. Funeral services for Whitworth are scheduled for Saturday morning in Garden City, MO.
