LINN COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -

A Shawnee mother died in a single-vehicle wreck Monday after the 14-year-old driver, her daughter, lost control of the SUV and rolled into a ditch, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The victim, Brenda Jo Clouse, 42, was a passenger in a 1999 Ford Explorer that headed north on 1077 Road, north of 2300 Road near Parker, KS, about noon Monday. Brenda Clouse, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

Authorities said Caitlin G. Clouse, of Parker, KS, drove off the east side of the road, over-corrected, lost control of the SUV and entered the west ditch. She then rolled the vehicle multiple times.

The vehicle came to rest in the ditch on its top.

The driver and her 16-year-old passenger, Connor Joseph Clouse, of Paola, were taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. They were treated and released from the hospital Monday. Connor Clouse was not wearing a seatbelt, the crash report stated.

Shaylyn L. Holcomb, 15, also of Paola, was taken to Miami County Hospital with unknown injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.

The following day at Paola High School where Kaitlin Clouse is a student, a classmate talked about his shock at hearing news of the wreck.

"I felt bad about her. I thought about how I'd feel if I lost my mom and it would just be devastating and I feel bad for her. We need to support her at school when we see her," Blake Tolliver said.

Initial reports from the highway patrol said the driver was 13, but a family friend said she was 14 and will be 15 next month.

The crash is under investigation.
