LEAVENWORTH, KS (KCTV) -
Monday night's storms that moved through the area are responsible for hundreds of power outages in Leavenworth.
Leavenworth resident Paul Cordt lives near Fifth Avenue and Spruce Street. He witnessed a tree that caught fire after it was struck by lightning.
Cordt went outside to see what all the noise was about and saw the tree burning.
Just a few blocks away at Fifth and Walnut streets, a huge branch snapped onto a power line, leaving many home owners in the area without power. Crews were close by to start fixing the downed power line and charged to restore the power to the hundreds in the area.
Westar Energy is reporting more than 470 customers still without power Tuesday morning in Leavenworth County. KCP&L has a bout 300 customers still in the dark.
